Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership allocates €80,000 to Wicklow Sports Clubs

Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership has announced the recipients of the Club Development Grant Scheme for 2024.  A record number, 78 clubs, will receive financial support through this grant scheme for 2024.

One of the remits of Wicklow Sports & Recreation Partnership is to support sports clubs to provide opportunities for people to participate in organised sport and physical activity. This Club Development Grant Scheme aims to support initiatives that will lead to an increase in participation levels in sports clubs across Wicklow.

This particular scheme focused on:

• Training and education of club volunteers.
• Delivery of programmes or initiatives that will increase club membership.
• Small equipment purchases to facilitate increased membership.
• Youth development programmes to support the youth section of the club by training or upskilling youth members.
• Programmes and initiatives with a focus on inclusion of new communities, women and those with disabilities.

Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr. Aoife Flynn Kennedy welcomed the announcement highlighting how important sports clubs are to their local community saying, “The benefits of people being involved in sports clubs cannot be underestimated, from the health and wellbeing benefits to the social connections that are made.  I would like to thank all of the coaches and club administrators that keep these clubs at the centre of our communities.”

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council thanked Sport Ireland for the significant investment in Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership, commenting, “This investment enables Wicklow County Council to allocate €80,000 to sports clubs throughout the county.  Sport plays such an important role in the lives of people in Wicklow, it is great to be able to financially support the clubs at grass roots level”.

Aisling Hubbard, Coordinator Wicklow Sports and Recreation Partnership, speaking at the announcement said, “We would like to thank the clubs for submitting applications that really focused on the target of the scheme of participation, inclusion, training and education. We congratulate all recipients on their allocations.”
