buntus start logoBuntus is a motivating multi-sport programme set up by the Irish Sports Council, enabling a network of Local Sports Partnerships to provide teachers and childcare practitioners with training that can benefit children by introducing them to sport and physical activity. The Irish Sports Council recognises the major role that sport can play in the lives of young people and that is important that an enjoyable multi-sport and non-competitive model is used to introduce children to sport that will enhance and complement both school and community sport programmes.
 
Buntus Start: Pre-Schools & Creches
Buntus Start is a comprehensive physical activity programme for children aged between 2-5 years old. Buntus Start is delivered by Wicklow Local Sports Partnership in conjunction with the Wicklow County Childcare Committee. The programme is designed for use in pre-school settings to provide a wide range of learning opportunities for young children to develop their fundamental motor skills, manipulative skills, co-ordination, balancing skills and develop a positive attitude to physical activity. Buntus Start offers a combination of adult-initiated and child-led activities.
Buntus Start training offers:
-         A large resource pack of equipment.
-         Resource cards that offer a range of skill developmental and fun activities.
-         Training to assist childcare practitioners to implement the Buntus Start Programme.
Wicklow Local Sports Partnership have commenced the roll out of Buntus Start in the county. Buntus Generic: Primary Schools
Buntus Play & Sport complements the games strand of the P.E. curriculum in primary schools and is offered to all primary schools and special schools throughout the Local Sports Partnership Network.
 
Buntus Play & Sport are designed to give children a fun, but high quality introduction to sport and physical activity. The programmes help develop fundamental skills such as sending, receiving and travelling with a ball, to engage in game like situations which include running, dodging, chasing, exploiting space.
 
Wicklow Local Sports Partnership has commenced the roll out of Buntus Generic with primary schools in the county. Buntus Sport Specific:
The Irish Sports Council has linked with the FAI, IRFU, Badminton Ireland and Junior Golf Ireland to deliver the Buntus Sports Specific Programmes to Primary and Special Needs Schools in the Local Sports Partnership area’s.
 
The training is provided by the Regional Development Officers from the National Governing Bodies and specially trained Buntus tutors.
